When the plastic lower half of the original equipment two-piece engine oil pan on certain Volkswagen, Audi and Seat vehicles warps from heat or cracks from impact, the dealership's repair solution is to replace that failed lower half with the same plastic design. This only invites a similar future pan failure and leaks. The dealership's process requires applying a large amount of silicone sealant between the replacement lower half and the existing aluminum upper half of the pan, which means the vehicle has to be out of commission for a significant and inconvenient period of time while the sealant cures.
